The Skill Center is a non-profit organization that offers children with special needs therapeutic horse riding lessons at no cost. The children benefit from the horse therapy by improving their motor control and sensory processing skills. Many benefit psychologically and socially by just being around the horses and each other.
The Skill Center employs people from difficult backgrounds, such as those from Hilltribes. They then train them as groomers, pay for their grooming certifications, and offer them a well-paid and sustainable profession. People from Thailand's Hilltribes often lack citizenship in Thailand, and are not offered the same employment opportunities. This leads to a cycle of poverty for generations to come, and the Skill Center's mission is to break this cycle.
This amazing organization unfortunately has very expensive operational costs. It strives to become independent from donations by producing beautiful high-quality jewelry made from carved mango wood. The wood is a sustainable material, as mango trees have a short fruiting life, and are frequently cut down, making it an available resource. So, with each purchase of The Skill Center's jewelry, you are giving children with disabilities an invaluable service and helping to employ those who need it the most. All while looking good!
